How to measure

for your ring size

Finding the perfect ring size is crucial for comfort and style. While it's ideal to get sized by a professional jeweler, you can also measure your finger at home with a little creativity! Here are two methods to determine your ring size:

What you’ll need:

  • 6 inches of string or thin paper strip

  • Pen

  • Ruler

  • Ring size chart

1. string or paper method

Pile of White String
  • Take your string or paper strip and wrap it comfortably around the base of your chosen finger. The fit should be snug but not tight. Make sure the paper or string isn't twisted.

  • Use your pen to mark the spot on the string or paper where the two ends meet.

  • Carefully lay the string or paper flat on your ruler. Measure the distance between the two marks you made in millimeters. If you only have a centimeter ruler, note the measurement down and we'll convert it later.

  • This is where it gets a little math-y! To find the diameter of your finger, divide the measurement you took in step 3 by 3.14 (pi). You can use a calculator for this step.

  • Now that you have your finger's diameter in millimeters, consult a ring size chart to find your corresponding ring size. Match the diameter measurement to the closest size on the chart.

Measure Your Ring Size with a String

tips

  • Your fingers tend to fluctuate in size throughout the day. For the most accurate measurement, take your readings towards the end of the day when your fingers are slightly warmer.

  • Don't rely on just one measurement! Repeat steps 1-3 a few times to ensure consistency. Use the average of your readings for the best result.

  • Your dominant hand's fingers might be slightly larger than your non-dominant hand. If you plan on wearing the ring on a specific finger, measure that particular finger.

What you’ll need:

  • Printer

  • Paper

  • Ring you already own (optional)

steps

  • Find a printable ring size chart online. There are many resources available, so choose one that is clear and easy to read. Print the chart on a standard piece of paper.

  • If you have a ring that already fits you comfortably on the finger you plan to wear the new ring on, this step is easy! Simply place the ring on the different circles printed on the chart. The circle that matches the inside diameter of your ring most closely is your size.

  • Even without a current ring, you can still estimate your size using the chart. Find a ruler and measure the diameter of a pen or pencil that fits comfortably on your chosen finger. Line up the measurement with the circles on the chart to find your approximate size.

tips

  • Use a high-quality printer setting to ensure the chart prints at the correct size.

  • If you're unsure between two sizes, it's always better to size up. A slightly loose ring can be adjusted by a jeweler, but a too-tight ring can be uncomfortable and even damage your finger.

quick tip

If you don’t have any of the materials listed above, consider going to a craft store! You can typically find ring sizing and measuring tools in the jewelry section, like that photographed here.
